“It was Saturday morning, and 40-year-old Bilal Mohammad Saleh was harvesting olives on the small plot of land he had inherited from his father in the village of al-Sawiya, 18km (11 miles) south of Nablus.
As is usual during the Palestinian olive season, most of the family was there to help. His wife and four children as well as his siblings and some other family members were there when he was shot in the chest by an Israeli settler, with the Israeli army watching.
“Bilal was a poor hardworking man of the earth,” says his uncle Taiseer Shaheen. “His whole life he struggled, ever since he was orphaned at an early age.””

“Bilal Saleh was collecting olives with his family on Oct. 28 from his ancestral grove in the West Bank when he was confronted by Israeli settlers.
Saleh’s olive grove is surrounded by Israeli settlements considered illegal under international law for being built on land that Palestinians claim for their own independent state.
Footage obtained by CBS News shows four Israeli settlers wearing white approaching Saleh’s land, one with a weapon slung across his shoulder. In the video, a shot rings out, and moments later relatives find Saleh lying dead on the ground. He was buried on the same day.”
